Here we are with our first post! Welcome, everyone. While you are here, you will definitely create a long bucket list for Athens, but it is essential that the first day is full of basics.
Whether you are Greek or not, you must have heard of the Acropolis, as one of the most iconic landmarks of Greece. So, unsurprisingly, this day will be dedicated to Acropolis and its outskirts.
Every trip to Athens should start by visiting the monument of Acropolis, as it dominates the modern city. This sight was dedicated to the Greek goddess Athena, the goddess from which the city of Athens took its name. The greatest myths of the city, several religious festivals from ancient times till now, some early cults, and numerous other decisive events are connected to this specific precinct. The greatest sanctuary of Greece stands in perfect harmony with the natural environment and reflects accurately the power and wealth of Athens during the golden age of Perikles, in 500 b.c., when it was designed and built by Iktinos and Kallikratis. So, a visit to the Acropolis is a must for every visitor. I would recommend a guide so that you can really get in touch with the history that encircles it. Be careful, it is really slippery.
But we are not here to only talk history! After you finish your visit, you should explore the outskirts of the Acropolis and the beautiful area of Plaka. Drink your coffee or beverage sitting at the steps of Yasemi, one of the most famous cafés. Also, don't forget to eat any of their desserts that make the whole street smell tasty, it's worth it!
As your walk continues, in Plaka and Thisseio by the train that makes the whole center shake, buy a cocktail on hand. Greeks- and especially university students- love day-drinking, so as the sun falls, your cocktail should already be half empty! If you get hungry grab a souvlaki from Kostas and sit at the bar Clumsies, fabled for its cocktails and plateaus.

And that would be the first contact with the city. Remember to walk through the center to get to know it better. More sights combined with foods will follow! Stay tuned!
